EMPLOYEE INITIATIVES AND BENEFITS
Given the Group’s de-centralised
operations the scope of activities
varies from one operation to the
next. Among those implemented to
improve the well-being of employees,
promote bonding and family ties in
the workplace include Humanitarian
Funds, Group Life and Personal
insurance, Medical, Hospitalisation
and Surgical, Health Care Talks,
Sports and Recreational Activities,
Daily Meal provisions and Kids Club.
Humanitarian Aid
A provision for Humanitarian aid has
been provided to benefit the Group’s
employees in times of crisis. A
token sum is contributed, over and
above, the insurance claims. The
beneficiaries include:
|
• |
Employees’ spouse
and/or next-of-kin
in the event of
fatality of the
employee(s).
The quantum of
payment will be
assessed on a
case-by-case basis
and is dependent on
the number of the
employees’ children. |
|
• |
Employee(s) in the
event of demise of
the employee(s)
spouse or parents. A
fixed quantum is
paid. |
Request for the
Humanitarian benefit is
submitted to the Human
Resources Department, which
is then tabled at the CSR
Committee meeting for
approval.
Group Termlife and
Personal Accident Insurance
Over and above the Labour
Law requirements, the Group
provides Group Term Life and
Personal Accident insurance
coverage for all employees.
Additional Medical,
Hospitalisation and Surgical
Benefits
Over and above the mandatory
medical, hospitalization and
surgical benefits provided
for under the labour law and
paid by the Group via
insurance premium, the Group
also pays for medical,
hospitalization and surgical
costs incurred exceeding the
coverage provided by the
insurance provider.
Health Care Talks

The Group recognises the
importance of promoting
“wellness” at the workplace.
Creating awareness and
promoting healthy habits
among the employees not only
improves their overall
health but also helps
reduces absenteeism, costs
of medical expenses and most
importantly improves
productivity at the
workplace.

Meal Provision
Due to non availability of eateries
in the location and as a
convenience, a daily meal provision
is included for the 75-odd employees
at the corporate headquarters in
Kuala Lumpur. As this is only a
provision, this practice may be
discontinued with the establishment
of eateries in the vicinity.
Petra Kids Club
Being
in an industry where some of its
employees are forced to work away
from the family at periodic
intervals, the CSR Committee
provided recommendations for the
formation of the Petra Kids Club,
where its members comprise children
of employees at the headquarters.
The first programme organised under
the club was ‘Bring Your Kids to
Work Day’ (BYKWD) at Petra HQ in
August 2008.
|
The objectives of
the programme are
to: |
|
• |
Promote a closer
relationship with
parents |
|
• |
Develop skills in
promoting children’s
confidence,
self-esteem and
social skills |
|
• |
Create awareness on
current issues
(promoting and
developing a more
caring future
citizen) |
|
• |
Teaching kids to
have fun outside of
the home in a
controlled and safe
environment |
|
